I grew up in the outskirts of Silicon Valley where conversations with family friends consisted of the ever-evolving tech industry. The only technology I was obsessed with was when my dad was going to update his Mac so that I could have the latest iMovie software. I was introduced to the filmmaking world when my Apple© -obsessed dad enrolled me in an iMovie editing course in elementary school. That course equipped me with the basic skills I needed to film and edit short sketches on my…iPhone 3G! When I told my parents that I wanted to major in film, my dad instantly regretted enrolling me in that iMovie class. Just kidding!! I am fortunate enough to have very supportive parents and my Dad even PA’d on Ladke.
In addition to writing and directing, I am the Head of Community for Rickshaw Film Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to amplifying South Asian filmmakers in the Film & TV industry. I am passionate about writing stories that normalize South Asian characters in every day life, in narratives other than constant identity crisis. My characters are funny, awkward, and not-so-confident and I hope they resonate with you. And if they don’t, that’s okay too.
